For many healthcare professionals, sending Electronic Health Records (EHR) to network partners and non-network partners is difficult due to the fact that most of these systems can’t interoperate with each other. Even when interoperability is achieved, the question of security between partners is still a concern. Standard communication channels like FTP and SFTP are not secure and pose a risk to the organization. Healthcare organizations are now faced with the task of reporting meaningful use of a certified EHR to the government to receive funds for these initiatives, and not doing so will result in loss of revenue opportunities. The pressure is on to not only exchange EHR information, but to do so securely and efficiently.
